Celery is normally classed as a biennial, but will continue to grow, after going to seed in the second year. Performs well on the coast as a winter vegetable, if mulched with straw or leaves. The flavour of the leaves in medium strong, great for a garnish and flavouring sauces, stews and soup. The young leaves make a fine salad addition. Leaf celery is also a good digestive aid. Easy to grow, start indoors in early spring.
